US Marine Corps PFC Dan Bullock: The Youngest American KIA during the Vietnam War

Did you know that the youngest American to be killed in action during the Vietnam War was only 15 years old?

At the age of 14, Dan Bullock altered his birth certificate to show he was 18 and enlisted in the Marine Corps. After boot camp, Private First Class Bullock was deployed to South Vietnam as a rifleman with the 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division. Tragically, on June 7, 1969, just one month after arriving, Bullock, aged just 15, along with three other Marines, faced an attack on their base. During the assault by a North Vietnamese sapper unit, a satchel charge was thrown into the Marine’s bunker, resulting in the loss of Bullock and two fellow Marines.
Despite his sacrifice for his nation, Private First Class Dan Bullock's grave remained unmarked until 2000 when a veteran's marker was finally placed.
