US Army 1LT James Earl Jones #shorts #history #usa

James Earl Jones, renowned for his powerful voice and iconic roles in film and theater, served in the US military. Jones was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the US Army in 1953, towards the end of the Korean War. His military service took him to Fort Benning, Georgia, where he attended Officers Basic Course and Ranger School, and then to Colorado. After training he was assigned to the 38th Regimental Combat Team at the former Camp Hale, where his unit was tasked with establishing a cold weather training command. Jones excelled in his duties and struggled deciding if he should pursue his Army career or follow his dream of acting on stage and screen. Knowing he could always return to the Army, Jones chose acting. Before being discharged in 1955, he was promoted to 1st Lt. Jones' military service, though relatively brief, played a formative role in his life, instilling discipline and providing valuable experiences that would later inspire his acclaimed performances on stage and screen.
