On April 7, 2011, US Marine Corps Staff Sergeant Jason Rogers was operating in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, when fellow Marines were injured by multiple improvised explosive devices (IEDs). While helping secure the area and aid his wounded teammates, SSgt Rogers used a metal detector to clear a path for medical evacuation. During this effort, he located an IED that tragically took his life.
